Summer Fun Vibes

Summer is finally here! Whoop! For children the concept of summer is an exciting adventure of endless possibilities. The days feel endless and the activities seem neverending. The pure joy of summer can stire up mountains of exploration and creativity. While there are so many opportunities for planned activities, the unplaned play can be just as exciting!

With the weather being warmer and the days being longer, everyone has a busy summer planned out. From camps, vacations, swimming and splash pads, playgrounds and parks, scheduled playdates, birthday parties, and more.. a lot of structured play is in the works! AND THIS IS GREAT! Opportunities for spontaneous play are right there with them.

Spontaneous Play vs. Structured Play

Spontaneous play is child-led while structured play is adult-led. The focus of spontanious play is more about being unstrucured, self-directed and creative. The focus of structured play is more about being goal-oriented, predetermined, and following instructions.

With all the structured play being added into our summer, incorporating more spontaneous play will be the perfect balance of all skill sets!

Skills Developed Through Spontaneous Play

  • Social Skills

- Encourages collaboration and negotiation among peers.

- Fosters communication and empathy through group play.

  • Cognitive Skills

- Promotes problem-solving and critical thinking during imaginative play scenarios.

- Enhances decision-making abilities as children navigate their own play experiences.

  • Emotional Skills

- Builds resilience through trial and error in unstructured play situations.

- Encourages self-expression and emotional regulation as children explore their feelings.

  • Physical Skills

- Improves motor skills through active play, climbing, running, and exploring.

- Develops coordination and balance by engaging in diverse physical activities.

Joys of Spontaneous Play

Their are so many joys that came with from unplanned adventures, even during your planned ones. Children can discover their passions and interests more eaily during spontaneous play because they have more freedom to think and act the way that is comfortable for them.
